An Alabama City disbanded its police force after a grand jury found a "rampant culture of corruption."
Authorities also arrested Hanceville's police chief, four officers and the wife of one of the officers.
Charges included tampering with evidence. The Cullman County prosecutor said the police department's evidence room was "anything but secure.”
The grand jury tied last year's on-duty, drug overdose death of a Hanceville police dispatcher to “negligence, lack of procedure, general incompetence and disregard for human life.”
The police department closed in March.
